Talent Expert Rita Moved from Brazil to Sweden

Within 20 minutes of losing her Sandvik ID badge on the subway, the HR department received a call that someone had found it. Feeling safe is just one of the things Rita Cardoso appreciates about her new home in Sweden.

Even though her father worked in the mining industry, Brazilian Rita Cardoso never saw herself in that field. Her dream was to be a journalist, and she eventually achieved that. But soon, she realized that writing would be better as a hobby than a career.

When she became an intern at a mining company, working in community relations and public relations, everything clicked. “I loved the experience,” she says. In 2016, she started working in corporate communications at Sandvik in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

“What surprised me about joining the company was the welcoming feeling,” says Rita. “People are open and collaborative, and you have the chance to interact regardless of your location and position. I also appreciate the development opportunities I have had since joining Sandvik.”

Career Moves

After seven years in marketing and communications, she was ready to learn something new, and last year she changed careers—and countries.

The chance to add HR to her professional experience led Rita Cardoso to apply for the position of Global Talent Attraction Expert. “The fact that the job was in Stockholm, Sweden, was an opportunity to add international experience to my career,” she says. “It worked out, and here I am!”
